[GoodReads♥ Yes, this book is About Being Trans, and it is Educating you the reader, but it's so good. (Caveat: The exoticization of one of the secondary characters made me uncomfortable.) I just read this the other week. I agree with your point about the exoticization--it's mild, but it's there. But I did enjoy the book. I like Ellen Wittlinger's work. She manages to write stories where not everything works out but everybody still ends up somewhere around happy or at least sadder and wiser. I am a sucker for a happy ending but more than that I really like to see endings where people are doing psychologically better than in the beginning, even if it didn't work out with their love interest (which it rarely does in her books, and that's pretty realistic for most adolescents).
