Shakespeare Dream Cast Meme

For this meme, visiblemarket suggested Romeo and Juliet because she wanted to see where I'd take this one.  I have to say, I find this play to be very cliche, overdone, and rather boring (except for Mercutio and his awesome).  So I decided to shake things up in a way that might make very traditionalist Shakespeare scholars (like my amazing professor) hunt me ( Read more... )

meme, too weird for words, um...what?, shakespeare

Hee, I had a feeling you were going to go with a m/m interpretation, which is probably one of the best ways to make R&J interesting. I especially liked you're justification for CE being Capulet. Thanks for this!

Am I really that predictable? ;) Yeah, I thought of going the traditional route ("Robert Pattinson as Romeo, Kristen Stewart as Juliet because that's what SMeyer's going for anyway..."), but then I chucked that because it wasn't nearly as much fun.

I especially liked you're justification for CE being Capulet.

Thanks! When I tried to envision Capulet, I suddenly pictured CE specifically as Claude, and I don't know why. That happened with quite a few of these. I also realized that I'll have to add a couple of sentences to clarify my choice for Tybalt. I meant to explain more, but got all caught up in it and forgot.

You're welcome! I hope it wasn't too insane, with all the meta casting choices 5 Who actors! 5!.

Heh, well... ;) But we're slash girls. I don't think we can help it.

I will say that if I had done it, I'd be kind of torn: if I was going to keep it m/f, I would make sure both of them were around the right age (really, really young), because otherwise them being so stupid makes no sense. But with a m/m interpretation, I feel like you could get away with them being a little more desperate and a little crazier and being as stupid as they end up being.

Blue eyes! It's almost as good as my justification for why he's totally Neal Caffrey's daddy.

Hee. I think we all just focus on the English aspect of them. Of course they'll be good in Shakespeare, they're English!

So true, so true.

Yeah, that was part of the problem: I couldn't think of any really good, really young actors or actresses who could do it, so I went this route.

But with a m/m interpretation, I feel like you could get away with them being a little more desperate and a little crazier and being as stupid as they end up being.

Yeah, I can see that because it would be so beyond taboo that they wouldn't really know what to do and then bungle everything out of sheer cluelessness.

Blue eyes! It's almost as good as my justification for why he's totally Neal Caffrey's daddy.

Yes, the blue eyes definitely played a part. But when I thought of how utterly mean he gets when Juliet refuses Paris, I thought of Claude whacking Peter with a stick. Also, something about Claude's beard could totally make me buy him as a member of the gentry going to pot. Yeah.

LOL. Yes, British people must do Shakespeare. It's one of the universal laws. ;)

Argh, it took me way too long to comment on this. But anyway, it's awesome! I'd love to see an m/m interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. Your Mercutio, Benvolio, and Tybalt are especially inspired.

That's alright. ;) I think an m/m version might make more sense to a modern audience, since we've heard the original plot so many times.

Your Mercutio, Benvolio, and Tybalt are especially inspired.

Thanks. :D I wasn't sure if those would click, but they turned out to be my favorites. I'd love to see this Mercutio and Tybalt go up against each other: so much snark.
