Musings on the Rose Bowl Parade.

Okay, networks, DON'T CUT TO COMMERCIALS WHEN THE HIGH SCHOOL BANDS SHOW UP!!!  Why?  Because those kids WORK THEIR ASSES OFF TO GET THERE.  Sorry about the capslocks, but that's important to me.  Why?  Because my high school band went to the 116th Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2005.  When we got back, all of the "popular" kids, who were ( Read more... )

I was watching it on Univision (don't ask) and at least they were fairly good about only cutting to commercial when the bands finished, or when the floats had mostly gone by. Of course, we also got a lot of commentary about, "And in America, such-and-such is traditional!" But that's not too bad.

I loved the bulldog float, and all the horses. But I'm easy to please like that.

Good for them. At least someone has some sensitivity.

Yes, the bulldog float was so cute! And the horses are cool. I remember watching them gallop on the highway median at like 6:00 in the morning (I just realized how ridiculous that sounds) and thinking how awesome that was. I was the only kid who thought that, however, since the other kids were focusing on watching them relieve themselves. *eyeroll*

I love the Medieval Times equestrian unit because that is such a fun restaurant (they have a few around the country, but the one in California is the only one I've been to).

Man, that sucks. :< But networks in general are pretty stupid about what people do and do not want to watch -- those stupid Neilsen ratings where one person represents 10,000 people? Yeah, THAT'S accurate. -_-;

Also, your icon XD Phoenix Wright reference for the win!

Oh yeah, I know about that because I'm a Supernatural fan. It's a great show, but the CW put it in the time slot right after Smallville (because horror/fantasy shows should come after superhero soap operas that people are getting sick of) and has to compete with CSI and Grey's Anatomy (I've seen the latter twice and it seems utterly pointless). "Hospital drama that's all about sex" vs. "Psychological thriller meets slasher fic meets dark comedy show with two gorgeous brothers and a sexy muscle car." Which wins? Sex-obsessed hospital drama of course (because horror/fantasy is weird !)

Thank you. I don't really know Phoenim Wright, though. I chose it because it has the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who (he reminds me of my brother on several gallons of caffeine).

I don't think the networks even watch half the shows they air. They watch the pilot and scattered episodes in between.. I'm sure they think Smallville is still "Monster of the week adventure show!" And probably assume Supernatural is the same thing. Because all sci-fi fantasy is the same, right? orz

You're not really into the video game scene, right? So yeah, you might not know Phoenix Wright. Honestly... it's more like a book than a game, and it's really a blast to play. If you can get your hands on a DS, I can lend you my copy and let you play it, I think youd like it. It kind of reminds me of Scrubs, in terms of mood & style, if you like that show.

Yeah, especially the CW, whose execs seem to think that promoting sexed-up teen drama after sexed-up teen drama will make them a reputable station. Eric Kripke, SPN's creator, claims the show is "the best-kept secret since the Manhattan Project." And I don't get why sci-fi/fantasy is perceived as something only teenagers should watch, but it's embarassing if grown-ups watch it. Apparently, adults should watch shows that feature adults having sex every episode (with some mediocre plots) instead of paranormal shows with good plots that have sex scenes once or twice a season.

I've heard of it, but I don't have a DS. But Scrubs is so cute!
