The town hall screamers were able to derail health care reform for a time because we paid attention to them, and because they were all the MSM covered.  There was virtually no coverage of the relatively orderly town hall that I attended, but the one in the next state that had shouters got lots of coverage*.

Ironically enough, unlike Ross Brooks' descendants, my Pop's family fought on both sides in the Civil War (some were Kansans, others Missourians) and my mother, the Daughter of the American Colonies...is not a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Figure that one out.

1. Wrong Brooks. The one I'm thinking of had more constituents involved. Of course it wasn't entirely fair-- I forgot that the final incident was on the Senate floor, not the House floor.

2. My father claims to have had ancestors on both sides and one who hired a substitute, "and he's the one we're proudest of 'cause he's the only one of 'us ever had $200 in the same place."

Oh, the infamous incident with Sen. Calhoun's protege, that other Brooks. My mistake.
