Hermetic Curriculum (Phase 1)

I've decided to work out a magical curriculum for myself based on the ideas expressed by John Michael Greer in his article "A Magical Education" (Llewellyn's 2002 Magical Almanac, pg. 316). Yeah, I consider mathematics to be exceptionally important. Of course there's the matter of sacred geometry in traditional Hermetics, but it goes beyond that, too. I consider mathematics to be a way of thinking and of understanding, a language which communicates the fundaments of certain aspects of reality. It's also damn beautiful and fascinating. A lot of magical folks are afraid of it because we tend toward being more artistically tempered than scientifically, but I see that as an imbalance to redress rather than a state-of-being to accept.

It actually really annoys me when otherwise intelligent people say "I hate !" Maths are probably the most common targets for this kind of statement, usually because the person isn't very good with numbers and so instead of trying to find a way to make them interesting and useful, they just write-off the single most fundamental area of knowledge out of simple frustration. I'm not exceptionally good with numbers, and in fact have a lot of confidence issues in maths left over from school, but I've ( ... )
