Yes, totally agree with you on Deathless. It was one of my favorite reads this year.
And sad to hear that about Florence and the Machine. I was really enjoying the new album. If you don't mind me asking, what happened? Was it something she said during the concert, or was it in her songs?
Aside: V. jealous of the Adele live. I can't even imagine how awesome that was.
Re: Deathless--yes, fantastic. It was definitely one of my favorites, too.
Re: Florence + the Machine--the video for one of her recent singles ("No Light, No Light") off the new album was pretty straight-up racist. The actor in black face was just the start of it.
Honestly, it's pretty frigging egregious. Made me rather sad, given that the new album is so great and I'm still not ready to listen to it again given that I'm still calling her Racist + the Machine.
*Slaps forehead* No, I hadn't seen the video. That's just incredibly stupid, and it doesn't even match the logic of the song which talks about her messed up love interest having bright blue eyes. Thanks for the heads up.
Right now I'm stalking the google alert for when Adele's US tour resumes. Fingers crossed she does a DC show. Hope you are having a great new year:)
Eclipse - the Twilight movie? I know you're not a fan - did someone drag you?
The Debt - have you seen/did you enjoy Red? Fun romp, and Helen was awesome (of course).
The Sorcerer's Apprentice - whatever you thought of the movie (and I, admittedly, love it), wasn't Nicholas Cage an excellent fit for the part? I sometimes re-watch it just for his moments.
What a Girl Wants is one of my favorite guilty pleasures (I don't own it, but I always watch it when it's on), and it's the first movie that comes to mind when I think of Colin Firth. This has recently become an issue wrt my recent introduction to/fascination with/fixation on Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps I should watch Bridget Jones to help bridge the gap.
Hm. Now you have me thinking about an urban fantasy where the Europeans came over and killed everything, but European folkbeings ended up slaughtered by the native folkbeings. So Europeans coming over think they're getting into the same vampires and werewolves (or fairies or demons or whatever, though I'd prefer not Christian mythos because I am TIRED of it) when really the underpinnings of the world are completely different.

There's a great deconstruction of it at Jezebel:

Red: Yes. My initial reaction when I heard about Red was, "Helen Mirren as an assassin? Oh, hell yes!"
Nick Cage: at this point, he's become one of those actors that I just see as himself rather than his character. Sorry.
Bridget Jones's Diary is always a good idea.

When Drumline came out, the altoz went to see it about five times.
