This, perfectly, yes.

I have no clue how family members of mine can be against health care when they're Christian. It's completely anti-ethical.

I think it's that people would rather not take the injunction of communal responsibility (feed and clothe your neighbor!) as literally as it's actually meant. That whole thing about how if you have two shirts and your neighbor has none you should give him one means exactly that is a lot harder to practice than the whole "I've got mine. Fuck you." attitude that seems to pervade so much of contemporary conservative social and political practice.

And yeah, you'd think they'd remember the line about healing the sick, too.

There are many reasons I left Christianity, but most of them boil down to one thing: the "Christians" themselves.
