In doing so, it becomes the first Latin American nation to do so (although Mexico City, with about a quarter of the total Mexican population, did so last year).
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner does a great job demolishing the reactionary response. I especially like the parallel between the way she invokes the Inquisition and her comparison to legalizing Jewish weddings. Keep in mind that this is a country where laws restricted baby names to an approved list (first names, not surnames).
