I remember visiting a friend's family in Lisbon in the early nineties. There was a couple who lived across the street from Luis's family. Two women who were obviously closeted and obviously lesbian. They'd been together forever and were close family friends. Looking it up just now, homosexuality was legalized in the early 80's, yet I clearly remember being told that it was illegal and dangerous to even mention that they might be gay.
I wonder how their lives have changed.
I wonder if they are still together.

I hope that they're still together, happy, and now get to have a nice little wedding, with their friends and family loving and supporting them.
