Damn it, John C. Wright. Why'd you have to haul off and prove yourself a raving homophobic asshat? I enjoyed your Chronicles of Chaos books--I really did. I was happy to send money and other readers your way.

As for Hal Duncan--well, he's like that. I used "florid" as adjective advisedly. It's not so much that he waxes purple, as that he's permanently violet, and that either works for you or it doesn't. His Vellum is brilliant, but excessive and a bit too clever for its own good, but did I mention brilliant? That said, I stopped at some point in its sequel, Ink, because... it got to be too much work at that particular moment? *shrug* I'll come back to it, I'm sure. As a writer, I recognize some of Duncan's sins and talents as ones I share, which makes his work both a pleasure and pain to read.
Also, yuki_onna's Palimpsest is lush, bordering on over-ripe, and is utterly magnificent. I'm going to have to read more of her work. It's one of those reading instances where part of my mind was going, "Pay attention! Learn!" because in it, she knows how to ride that edge.

I plan to read Hal Duncan's and Catherynne M. Valente's letters later.
One thing is for certain: I will never purchase nor recommend a book of John C. Wright's.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
