yet more about books and shelves

So today I was at the corner thrift store, which I love and fear in approximately equal measure, and I spotted bookshelves. Just like the bookshelves I'm trying to find extra shelves for, though in a different color. And the color? Really, who cares? I mean, I'm not so bourgeois that I couldn't live with different-color shelves in a bookcase ( Read more... )

This was very soothing. It made a very good sanity-break from the Technical Documentation from Hell That Needs to Have Been Done an Hour Ago and Will Probably Get Me Fired.

Christina Stead wasn't British, though. She was Australian by birth and an expatriate by nature. She spent most of her adult life wandering the US and Europe. The Man Who Loved Children is one of the most brilliant books on childhood I've ever read.

Beverley and Brockway can vary widely in quality, so good. ;)

But Beverley usually has a pretty decent resale value at least. And if you can find her older Regencies, they're worth quite a bit.

And everybody needs a break from Technical Documentation!!! We just found out that the VP has decided that we don't need the contractor we'd already interviewed and had his permission to hire. [[beats head against wall]]

So I've discovered, and now I'm wondering where I got the British thing from. Apparently she ended up in the U.S. as well. Shows what I know. This is why the self-education is so badly needed. ::sigh::

I can be taught! It takes a while, but I catch on. And, you know, make better lists.

Hello. Have I mentioned that I am also genuinely enthusiastic about the possibility of that job for you? Because I am, what with the stability and the keeping you closer to me for longer. The application process in this case is so formulaic as to mostly just require that you complete it. So, just do that, okay? I predict that they will, indeed, be stunned by your overqualifications. Put a brief paragraph about your commitment to teaching in the cover letter to make it clear why overqualified you is interested in little old them. But you know this. Go forth and applicate! (note that I am available for telephone pep talks and/or listening to bureaucratic frustrations even during High Holy Day of Obligation because I am all about the recording devices. Also? I am all about talking with you on the phone. My fingers are crossed that Working Assets has no problem carrying our free minutes over when I switch phone numbers.)
