remastering superstar, or: just shoot me.

This stupid fucking vid has cuts like every sixteen frames. Two-thirds of the clips have been slowed down or speeded up. And virtually every one is timed to some tiny thing in the music that, okay, probably only I can hear, but I have looked at this vid so. many. times. that if I get a clip just two frames out of alignment it looks off to me ( Read more... )

I feel your pain, too. I just did my first remastering, and it wasn't a vid with tons of clips or fast cuts (though most clips were time-altered). Still, it was a big, honkin' pain. It's very tedious and time consuming to try to get it right.

Yeah, it's the tedious and time-consuming that's most irksome. When I'm actually vidding, I'm completely absorbed in what I'm doing. With remastering, I'm only *mostly* absorbed, and there's this little part of my brain going "I'm bored now. I want a cookie. I want to listen to the new Laura Love CD. I want to watch Buffy commentary tracks. Hey! Pay attention! *poke, poke* I'm bored!" It's like I've suddenly got an inner five-year-old. So. very. tiresome.

Psst.. it even matches your LJ colour scheme.

Dear god, it does. Which, when the colors in question are green and yellow, is NOT what one expects from a chocolate cake.

Thank you, by the way. May all my fits of whining meet with such kind responses. *g*

Okay, a few days late, but.

I share your pain, that's one. I *heart* Superstar, that's two. I *heart* almost all your other vids, that's three. (Yes. Went to the site, found the LJ, now I'm being a rabid fangirl.)

I know just what you mean about the one or two frames. That's always how it is, but, you know, it's not so much that they notice, it's that it makes them not notice. And that's something to take comfort in. Because when something is off, they might notice. When it's on, no matter what, you're good. You know?

Mind if I ask, btw, what you use to edit?

It's never too late for feedback -- thank you very much!

You're quite right about the editing process. I don't want it to distract from other people's viewing experience... but mostly I just don't want it to distract from mine: I make the vids I want to see.

I've used Adobe Premiere to make all my vids. Great program, except when it crashes my not-really-up-to-spec computer.

Ah. You use it better than I, then. No, I'm not actually surprised. I was just kind of hoping I could blame inadequacies on bad tools or whatnot. ;)

Oh, it crashes on my up-to-spec computer, too. It's not just you.

I meant to comment here when I friended you, but I can't remember anything;) Just wanted to say that I'm re-watching some of your vids. You've always been one of my favorite BTVS vidders. So nice to relax on a Sunday with pretty pictures of Spike.

Re-watching is one of the nicest compliments you can give a vidder -- thanks for letting me know about it!

Well, I usually use the waveform *and* the sound, because a lot of the music I use doesn't have visible beat spikes by the middle of the song; I end up having to check by ear. But yeah, love that audio track waveform and the ability to place track markers.
