...like an adult!

I hate calling strangers on the phone. Like really, really hate it. Even if it is for something important, like calling the bank or my insurance agent or the guys who are going to come give me estimates on various house-related projects, the time it takes me to psych myself up to do it is all out of proportion to the time it takes to actually do it ( Read more... )

GO YOU, INDEED!

I hate making phone calls, too. The only place i'm good at making calls is from my work office - I guess there I feel like I have a persona that can pick up the phone and make things happen? But at home, nooooooo. Why don't people just email?

Yeah, work calls are a bit easier for me too -- though for me it's not so much a persona thing as that I usually already know the person I'm calling. Initiating contact with strangers is a big DO NOT WANT for me almost all the time.

Adulting is super-hard, and ironically, I think it's exponentially so as the years roll by. Even when it looks easy to the casual bystander. Go you for doing it several times in a row! (I find calling people I know to be just as hard as calling strangers. Except at work. Brains are weird.)

I don't mind calling people I know, but this is partly due to years of training: renenet and I spend hours on the phone every week, and my closest local friend is very into chatting on the phone, even if we just had lunch together earlier in the day. But initiating contact with strangers? DO NOT WANT. On the flip side, there's a sort of "might as well, not dead yet" attitude that kicks in after the first call, which is why I almost always end up doing them in batches.

But yeah, adulting still sucks.
