gone from "consistently charming" to "makes me really happy."
YES. I just...I am constantly baffled by my reaction to Castle. I love it - a LOT - and yet I am weirdly non-fannish about it in terms of discussing it or fic-reading or even vid ideas. But I would miss the show if it were gone, because it makes me so happy.
I really admire what you did with effects (and, wow, that is a GREAT response to "The Test"! Totally deserved). Effects still make me nervous, but you're a good role model for me that it can be done.
work on whatever I want to work on
It does seem obvious, doesn't it? And yet sometimes bizarrely difficult to do. I'm kind of wrestling with that right now. Thanks for pointing it out!
And clearly I'm going to have to see both FNL and Fringe, based on the squee for both from people I respect. Like yourself. *g*
Castle! Right there with you. I did love the "Suddenly I See" vid that got posted a while back, but mostly it's just the show -- which keeps being more than the sum of its (admittedly charming) parts. IDEK.
Effects still make ME nervous! But I survived them. So now I guess I am my own role model, or something? CRAZY.
Part of my problem with figuring out what I want to work on is that sometimes I want to be working on a lot of different projects, except I want that because I'm avoiding other things: ANYTHING would be better than grading this stack of papers, or cleaning the kitchen, or whatever. Getting myself to focus, to think about what I REALLY want to work on, now, concretely, rather than just "if I had all the time in the world...!" abstractions, is hard.
And oh, Fringe and FNL! So much love for them both. FNL grabbed me right out of the gate, while Fringe was more of a slow burn, but they are so very much my favorite things on TV right now. ♥
I really need to catch up on FNL (err, I think the last bit I watched was when the Coach kicked Tim out of his house after mistakenly thinking he made a move on Julie in... season 2?) because so many people are saying how incredible and heartbreaking the show has been this last season. Plus, I need context to be able to watch your vids. *g* Looks like seasons 1-4 are on Netflix so I can even do it legally!
I am mad jealous that you have a local friend with whom to watch Fringe. I haven't yet caught up on the latest ep, and TiVo, while being uber-convenient, allows me to be lazy on watching my shows in a timely fashion. I often find myself feeling nostalgic about the collective fannish high we used to get with shows like Buffy, where we could reliably expect most of the fandom to be watching a given episode at the same time, and there would be, like, 15 cut-tag reactions on LJ with (!!!!) one after another after an episode aired. Last time I participated in something remotely like that was with the first season of Veronica Mars (MY

FNL had a pretty rocky 2nd season -- not terrible, but definitely a mixed bag -- and then came back so, so strong: it's been consistently good-to-amazing for the past 3 seasons. And its tonal range is amazing; it can go from funny to heartbreaking and back with remarkable deftness.

I miss that too, so much. As someone whose most lasting fannish commitment is really to discussion and meta -- which were my gateway drugs for vids! -- I'm saddened by the temporal fragmentation of (my corner of) fandom. At the same time, as someone who's benefited enormously from the new age of Available Anytime! TV, it feels churlish to complain. Plus -- yeah, I don't miss the wank either. Heh.
Yay for FNL and Southlands, I'm a sucker for TV that has a raw, unrehearsed feel to it. And yes, Castle is real feel good TV, fluffy with nil caloric content but so tasty. If you like this you probably will do very well with White Collar for laudry duty ...
Yeah, I'm enjoying Southland well enough, though I don't care about the Southland characters nearly as much as I do the FNL characters.
I've started watching White Collar, and yeah, it's charming. I don't have the pre-existing attachment to any of the actors that I do to Nathan Fillion, so we'll see how it fares long-term, but it is indeed just right for laundry-folding.

And oh, SCC. Still bitter.
