Upon reading my students' final reflection papers, I am overcome with 1) vast affection for them all, and 2) profound gratitude that I am no longer twenty years old. Just remembering what it was like to be that staggeringly self-involved is exhausting. I avoid maturity as a rule, but in this instance I am actually pleased that it snuck up on me ( Read more... )

FWIW, I was 37 before I realized that I was an adult. Then I let it go.

Buying the house was definitely an OH SHIT ADULTHOOD IS HERE moment. But for the most part I try to live by the advice my ex's stepdad gave me when I graduated from college: You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.
