(Oh come on, like I'm not totally predictable. *g*)
I would say that vidding is my fandom, but I'm not sure that's actually true; it is in my head, but my activities of late, at least in terms of vidwatching, provide no supporting evidence for this claim.
Wouldn't your active vidding make you a part of vidding fandom still? I always find when I'm in vidding mode I watch less. And when I'm not vidding, I end up watching a bunch more. It balances out.
I suppose that I do count as part of vidding fandom, given that I'm doing it! I've just felt like a slacker for the last couple of years in terms of community: I hardly ever watch vids anymore outside of VVC, and I'm terrible about commenting on or reccing the few I do watch.
[i]My family members are aware in theory, although their level of not-caring is such that I'm not sure "know" is the appropriate word.[i] Exactly! For some reason the only bit of information about cons that stuck in my parents brain is that there often is a costume party at the end. Cons are now known as "the thing where you dress like a vampire" in my family. *roley-eyes* [i]I would say that vidding is my fandom, but I'm not sure that's actually true; it is in my head, but my activities of late, at least in terms of vidwatching, provide no supporting evidence for this claim.[i] Being a fan should be based of quality or quantity of your activity in fandom, but solely on the amount of fun, excitement and love you get out of that activity!

I suppose so, and I do get fun and excitement out of vidding; but I don't spend much time vidwatching, and so I don't feel like I'm contributing much to the community. Fandom, for me, is about community; if I'm not participating in the community, it's hard to think of myself as fannish.
Grammar-challenged much! Obviously that was meant to read should NOT be based on quality or quantity ...sorry.
on topic: I guess it just makes me sad to see so many people in fandom feeling pressured and underachieving in some way. The Year-End memes really brought that home for me. Every other post was about not having made enough vids, not having developed enough, not having participated in enough fandom activities.
I agree that community can be part of fandom, but it doesn't HAVE to be, I don't think. I am a HUGE fan of a certain band but I am not really part of any community unless they are on tour and go to gigs with friends

I've been listening to the songs you sent me, btw, and really really want to have the space/time to be working on one of these vids. Soon, I hope. I hope I hope.
I have been listening to our FNL S4 songs so much that I am now about 47% sure I'm going to drop a couple of the Buffy projects I was planning to work on this spring in order to vid FNL instead. My love for Buffy isn't going anywhere; I can come back to those vids. *g*
