I logged into chat late that night to be greeted with... )

And here is where I say "oh, I do that too, with the graph paper!" :)

Okay, not actual paper. But I did measure all my rooms and then draw them in Photoshop, and make little drawings of my furniture (converting X inches to Y pixels) and then put all the furniture bits on different layers and move them around and rotate etc. to try to figure out the best configurations.

Ahem.

we are geeks.

Also, you are totally not scary with your stompy boots. I see you with stompy boots and I just want to pat you on the head and coo "aww, look who has her stompy boots on today!"

Of course we're geeks! It's 90% of our considerable charm!

Although I have to say that drawing rooms in Photoshop may be even more geeky than my graph paper thing. I'm impressed.

I've tried out couch colors in photoshop, does that count? But when we finally move, I am so going to try to master sketchup for furniture layout purposes.... way cooler, er geekier? than graph paper...

I do the graph paper thing. I need to see where to put all the bookcases.

Yes! Thank you! My point exactly!

...speaking of bookcases, I think I may have found the perfect ones for my new space, and I think I may originally have gotten the link from you. So hey, thanks! *g*

I, um.

I actually bought Visio (pre-Microsoft buyout) to do that kind of floorplan layout. *koff*

Hey, I can totally respect that -- although I personally am too cheap to buy software to do what graph paper can accomplish. *g*

I tend to lose the little graph-paper cut-outs of my furniture, and then I have to go measure everything again and make new ones. I'm kind of lame that way; uber-organized in some spheres and a total disaster in others.

Software means never having to worry about a 2"x1" paper representation of your couch again. *g*

We moved a lab at work down the hall. I totally did graph paper and cut-out aerial-view furniture. Totally! Why wouldn't you?

Of course I also created this icon pixel by pixel. So that may not be at all reassuring.

Totally! Why wouldn't you?

Exactly!

Of course I also created this icon pixel by pixel.

Now THAT is scary. I mean, really.

I would do graph paper, because my father taught me so, but all of my furniture fits in one room. And is slight enough that I can easily lug it around.

> luminosity: All it took was ONE piano.

Ahaha!

Ah yes, the days when all my furniture rolled or folded up. Now I am old and stodgy and own things that are heavy and unwieldy. Which I actually feel fine about, come to think of it...
