The cold floor was the only comfort that Sam had for the last few days as his body was starting to succumb to the infections and pain and the last residuals of the blood addiction withdrawal.

It was easier to just lay still and breathe and sleep then to even fight any longer. Stolas had even gotten bored when Sam stopped fighting back and just laid there and ignored him. He wondered if they were just waiting for something, or if they just planned to let him die on his own and see how long it would take.

He woke up when the exorcism was played over the PA. His face was turned away from the door and he couldn't even lift his head when he heard the door open and his son's voice. He did, however, hiss as he felt his son's hand on his shoulder. It was a light touch but he just hurt everywhere at this point.

"Michael?" he asked, hoping it wasn't a trick of Stolas' in his mind again. One bloodshot eye cracked open to see the foggy outline of his son.

"Yeah, but we're a team. Gotta trust me to have your back."

"I've trusted you on that for awhile now," Sam told him. "Since I started training you. That doesn't make me stop being the protective father though."

"I know," he nodded. "Protect yourself sometimes too, okay?"

"I try. I just seriously failed in this attempt," Sam chuckled sadly. "And I can't even tell you that the other guy looks worse."

"Well, considering the other guy is most likely back in Hell, I'm thinking that things are sucking pretty hard for him right now as well."

"Maybe they'll keep him there this time. Or at least for a good century."

"Here's hoping," Michael sighed with a nod.

Sam let his son go and carefully lowered himself back onto the bed. "How about this? I'm going to up my morphine drip and take a nice long nap. You go spend time with Tara and in a few days, the group of us will just go somewhere for a few days. No hunting, just a little road trip. Unless that would be awkward..."

He smiled, before shaking his head. "I think she has plans for Switzerland, and I don't think you're invited. I'm sure Buster wouldn't mind keeping you company though."

Sam chuckled. "That's fine. You two need to go off and have fun like that. I'm sure Buster and I can keep each other out of trouble, especially if the doctors have me on lock down for a few weeks."

He nodded. "But if you need me to come home, Dad ... "

"I will call and send a jet. But I want you to go and have fun, Michael. Your mother took me on a vacation because she knows how stressful and dead this can make you. I want you to be happy and live your life still as well, and Tara is a beautiful woman to do that with."

Sam gave a small smile. "I'll just catch up on some television shows."

"Okay," he nodded. "You have fun too."
