Saxons are the guys who came over from Germany, along with the Angles (also Germany), Jutes (Denmark) and Frisians (Germany/Netherlands). Anglo-Saxon is the overall term for these Germanic 'invaders', once they'd colonised Great Britain (Angle is where the name England came from). The Britons were the Celtic people who lived here before the Germans came along. :P
Or at least, that is my knowledge of it ... I am certainly not an expert. Also, I'm aware that I probably confuse things by referring to both Saxons and Anglo-Saxons by the former title. :P
The Anglo-Saxons gods weren't exactly the same as their Norse equivalents, although they did share a lot of similarities. That's the thing about religion, it's all pretty much the same thing just with different names. Which is why it's so silly that people go to war over it. :|
