FlyLady Day 2 - STYMIED by SHOES! ;)

Sep 08, 2007 18:08

Well, it’s day two, and already I have FAILED! ;) Okay, not really . . . but day two is “Get Dressed to Lace-up Shoes,” and a quick look in my closet confirmed what I suspected when I read this. I don’t HAVE any lace-up shoes! (I think I do own a pair or two, but they’re in California). Bwahahahahaha! I live in flip-flops most of the summer, and ( Read more... )

LOL!!!!!

Stymied by Shoes - love it.

I should check that site again - I used to like some of the tips for decluttering - like walking through the house and picking up 10 items which you put away, that kind of thing.

I don't get the shoes either. I always walk around barefoot at home, or maybe with socks, but never shoes. They are dirty, everybody has to take off their shoes as soon as the come inside the flat, everybody does that in Switzerland...

But my sink shines away ;-)

Yeah, I hate shoes in the house, too - they just track dirt in! (Although at least here, we've walked through a lot of carpeted hallway before getting to our apartment, so at least the shoes are dry before we get here). I read something on her site once that said you should always wear shoes in case of an emergency - what if your kid breaks his arm, and you're late getting him to the hospital because you can't find a pair of shoes? Um, okay, so I guess I can see that some people might have trouble with this. BUT, I'm not too worried that I can't find a pair of shoes in an emergency. :D I might stick a pair of sandals right by the door and leave them there, just in case, so I know there's always a pair handy. :D

all my shoes ARE right next to the entrance. There might be a slight chaose sometimes, but not in the way that I wouldn't find a pair in a nanosecond if I had to.

You don't own sneakers?? Or did it have to be a fancy shoe?

I think I wouldn't be able to leave the house most of the time if I didn't have a pair of sneakers.

The only thing I have now close to "sneakers" are a pair of slip-on Vans. No laces. :D I think I have a pair of real lace-up sneakers in California, but I don't wear them very often. :D The shoes I wear most often are really comfy for walking, but they're black leather. Not sure how to describe them; they're not loafers, exactly, but they do slip on, too. :D

I love loafers. I have a pair, but something weird happened to the rubber heel of one of them and I keep meaning to get it repaired because otherwise the shoes aren't worn or old. But they're right at that stage where they're not perfectly comfy and molded to your foot? I miss them! I should really get around to getting them repaired. It's hard for me to find a shoe that comfortable with a square toebox like this one has. Manufacturers are so into torturing women's feet!

Would it count if you don't have a problem wearing your fuzzy slippers out of the house? I have been known to do that, occasionally. ;)

I know what you mean about pushing too hard; I do that too. Sometimes I figure that if I'm in the mood and have the energy to do it, I should just really go for it, since I never know when that motivated feeling will come again (One of my favorite times to do housework is in the middle of the night; sometimes when I can't sleep and start obsessing about the house - thinking what would happen if social services turned up at the door in the morning :D - I'll just get up and vacuum the stairs, or declutter a whole room, or whatever). Afterwards, I'm not sure if I burn out from too much activity, or if I'd have just gotten tired/bored with it anyway, but at least I got something done.

Heh. Yeah, probably pacing myself would be better. (Although I still do like my late-night cleaning binges). The perfectionism is not a good thing for us, though, is it? So far, I think I'm doing all right with going slowly. Of course, I'm only on Day three of FlyLady. :)

I've done Flylady on and off for several years and I've never done the shoe thing. You've lived in Scotland, if I remember correctly, yes? Remember the, erm, MUD? :D I'm all for shoes in the house if you live in Arizona but the UK is kinda muddy and I already have enough stuff tracked into the house with 3 kids, 2 cats and a new puppy. The only reason we wear shoes in the house is because there are still no carpets as the renovations have some way to go. Once the new carpets are down wearing shoes inside will lead to instant death.

Stupidly, I'm now a Master Declutterer but the only thing I've never managed is the continual shiny sink. Odd, eh?

Well, it sounds like it working for you even if the sink isn't shiny! :) The sink was what killed my efforts the first time I tried the system. She was ALL ABOUT the sink, but at that time, keeping the kitchen clean was Kevin's responsibility, not mine. And I sure wasn't going to agree to take on extra chores! *facepalm* I've gotten over that now.

Heh. Yeah, the mud would be a nightmare. I don't have to worry about that here - we're in a third-floor apartment so we'll have walked off any junk on our shoes before we get here. I just don't like wearing shoes at home, mostly.
