Yeah, I think this is something that is easily taken for granted. A while back, K and I had a conversation about how that's one of the things he most misses in not having a partner. It doesn't bother me as much, though, because I still do get lots of physical contact with C - so my "touch" quota is usually filled, whereas C and K have never been as cuddly or close together. And I think I would feel very deprived if I never had physical contact with another person on a regular basis.
This is fascinating...I know this is the theory behind many assists that they do in Scientology. They are basically a laying on of hands and they really do help you feel better. It is all about the energy.
There's also something similar in the Rosicrucian order - I haven't learned hardly any of it yet, but apparently there is a large body of knowledge/technique there, too. It's something that I kind of do naturally anyway, although I often use my breath, in addition to using my hands. (Using my breath, as in literally breathing on the injured area - it really seems to help a lot). :)
