Hmmh . . . you might be interested in this, synergybc.

Don't know about the web site, but Oprah called into Larry King the other night when Frey was on to defend him. Not sure if she did it out of loyalty, because of reputation (her's not his), or because she's Oprah and she just can't be wrong!!! And don't you forget it girlfriend!!!

I read the Smoking Gun stuff on Frey. It seems pretty obvious to me that he just totally made it all up. What's troubling about it is that he, and his book, really push the idea that drug and alcohol addiction is not a disease, that addicts don't need rehab or 12 step programs, and they can just use their will power to stop. Even though all the evidence is pretty much to the contrary, people believe him because he supposedly just willed himself to stop drinking and taking drugs. Except that he didn't. It sounds like he was never addicted to anything, never been arrested except once for something minor, never had any of those traumatic experiences in the book, was never an addict. Just a fiction writer whose fiction got rejected by lots of publishers, so he started claiming it was true to see if it would sell better, and it did.

Take this with a grain of salt but it's entirely possible that this is a rerun of a previous show because I remember seeing another episode with James Frey on it.

Well. I'm guessing that the high power Oprah has a team of lawyers (she must since she beat Texas on that beef/cattle thing!) and they'd probably tell her that she can't come out and saying anything as long as the guy is sticking to his story and no one has made any real legal movements against it. She's not much for controversy or at least not that I've noticed at any rate...
