In the department of things that I wish were true, I present this. It turns out books make you more then just smart, they have effected our evolution. I love that Jezebel uses my favorite shot of the Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. [Happy sigh.]

Well, I suspect that's what most stories have been for. There's all the religious texts, Aesop's fables and so forth.

A lot of writers tried to change their society with their works, like Dickens and Sinclair.

Maybe that's why I get annoyed when I find somebody who doesn't read much.

For the most part I agree. Movies, TV, internet porn aren't helping getting people to read. And yet I doubt we're getting dumber, especially not with all the information out there. I wish could live a thousand years to see how things turn.
