The Diamond Eye, Manhattan, New York 1938

[March 12th, 1938 @ 8:23 pm EST]

It's a crisp Spring evening in Upper Manhattan. On the twenty-seventh floor of one of the many skyscrapers in the vicinity, the exclusive Diamond Eye nightclub plays host to a fund raising gala to benefit the National Museum. Though it's been scheduled for several months, this particular gala has a new highlight: the unveiling of the golden Chachapoyan idol recently recovered by one Indiana Jones.

As a result, the grand ballroom is heaving with names from New York's Social Register. Most of the upper crust seem to have descended, all with open wallets and purses, just for the chance to get a first glimpse of the spectacular new exhibit. Ever since the stories hit the newspapers, Marcus Brody's office has been buried in last-minute acceptances from those who had previously begged other engagements. The curator is beaming now though, as he wanders through the affluent crowd, shaking a hand here, extending a platitude there.

Ironically, Indiana Jones, the guest of honor, is among the last to arrive. Most of the guests simply assume that he's been involved in one of his trademark adventures—perhaps fighting off Chinese assassins, or on an assignation with an exotic femme fatale. The truth is a good deal simpler: he's spent the last few hours being dragged to every dress shop along 5th Avenue by his wide-eyed, nineteenth-century date for the evening.

The effort wasn't wasted, though; Meg's sleeveless blue gown flatters her slim frame, and Indy would be the first to admit that he cuts a dashing figure in his tux.
