According to the BBC, the Taepodong-2 missile's estimated 3730 mile range would only threaten bits of Alaska... Also, I think it's noteworthy that South Korea doesn't seem to approve of the missile tests either.

THe way I understand it -- N.Korea has been playing this game of political blackmail with the U.S. for several years. They keep making saber rattling threats, and we keep caving in to them, giving them humanitarian aid = $$$. Basically, Kim Jong IL has been holding his civilian population hostage, by spending every DIME he has on weapons, and then using political extortion techniques to get the U.S. to write a BIG, fat check to subsidize food, medicine, hospitals, and schools
