He may have been spending his own resources, but the vanity plate fees help support the state government. I don't actually see the fail here. B actually has a vanity plate that contributes money to help the ocean and coast :)
I was thinking more in terms of the paper from the paperwork to order the vanity plate, the metal to create it, the gasoline to deliver it from wherever it was (as opposed to a bulk delivery of sequentially numbered plates that had already been created. Although granted they might've tossed it in on top of the bulk plates.)
I'm not decrying the funds that come from it. On my next car I'm going to see about getting a plate that funds wildlife preservation, in fact. It was more an observation that these kinds of plates crop up on Prius cars often, and that there's the appearance of bragging even if it is not so. I just can't grasp how it's different than "GUDINBED" on a personal level, state funding aside.

There is something else in the bible that says "when you do a good deed, don't bang a gong, it takes away your brownie points with God" of course I paraphrased. I've got vanity plates to assist Autism research. Maybe I'll get a job from it....
