Yesterdays and today.

May 24, 2010 21:50

When I decided to do this I meant to do it more often than once a week. But I'm just getting started keeping a journal, and I think I'll get the hang of it. It's been good to finally meet the people around me - I hope I'll get a chance to see more of everyone in person ( Read more... )

regina, birds, friends

You're interested in birds, sir? Birdwatching is a very serious hobby, so I've heard!

For someone with a bird as their namesake though, I don't know very much about them, sir!

I do like to watch birds, though I don't know how serious I am while I'm doing it - or how many different birds I will see. I like to watch the behavior of the birds I can see here, though. It can be a lot fun - and it's relaxing too.

It's nice to meet you - sorry about the bird watching speech. I've never seen a Magpie, have you?

N-No... I haven't, sir!

Well, I guess I might have, if they're native to this area... But I don't even really know what they look like, so I'm not entirely sure!

Rosa, huh? Guess she'll be the one to talk to about if they let inmates help them out. She sounds like a lady I could get along with. I like a few teams in hockey and stuff, but soccor I mostly watch when I'm bored. Basketball's okay too, I guess. Mr. P.'s gonna check out your circus, huh? Cool! He really digs attractions. Gotta give the guy points for effort for like, researching so much about tourism for Cohdopia.

I never really noticed too many of the birds we get around here. You have a keen eye for this stuff. Looking forward to seeing you!

Yeah, Rosa is easy to get along with - tough but fair.

Racing is what you really like, right? I hope you get to watch some of it here.

I was glad I was able to help the Ambassador out - he seems really good at his job. Plus, my friend Moe is the Ringmaster ad loves to show off his circus - so they'll both be happy.

It'll be nice to meet you too, Mimi.

I could recommend writers all day, but for short stories, I like Cortázar and Borges, and Beckett's More Pricks Than Kicks is a favorite of mine.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not going to say anything either way about secret practices. It had been a while since I played, but I think I'm getting back into the swing of it. The old instincts returning. Though I was always better at soccer, myself.

You and those birds. You're going to have a whole flock before long.

If you want to talk more about the note, let me know.

Thanks for the recommendations, Diego. I'll look for them in the library.

I'm not sure I'm ready for you to get back in the swing. What about my winning streak?

When I had some free time, I used to like to watch the bird trainer work on her act. Watching her flock was like seeing fish schooling in midair. Birds trust me enough to perch on, but that's about it I think.

Thanks, I appreciate it man. I know where to find you.

If you can't find them at the library, let me know. I have a few I can loan you. Also some Beckett plays, if you're interested in reading plays.

Ha, now I've struck some fear into your heart, I can tell. You'd better be worried. Your winning streak is about to become a losing streak.

I think you've got more pull with those birds than you realize. You could probably get them to do a few things, but since you're Mr. Modest, I know you won't try.

And that's right, you always know where to find me. See you later, Ken.

The Giving Tree, pal! It's a real tearjerker. I get dewy-eyed just thinking about it.

Sorry I can't give you any more recommendations. I haven't exactly had the time to read any other books since that.

Thanks, Detective - I'll look for The Giving Tree. Tearjerkers are fine.
I know you're busy, so you don't have a lot of time for reading - but if you can, you should read The Call of the Wild, by Jack London. I know you like dogs, so you might like it - it's a story about a dog's life.

I hope work is going well for you.

Yeah I like dogs! Sounds good, pal! Maybe I'll stop by at the library after work today.

Thank you once again for introducing me to Mr. Curls, Mr. Dingling. I very much enjoyed our conversation. I should be able to arrange my visit to the circus quite soon--it's a bit complicated to work out, as I'm bringing a number of my staff along. I don't doubt that we'll have a wonderful time.

I'm much the same with team sports. I root for everyone to play well and have a good time.

My own favorite book is Undchen ahr Paathmin, an enchanting, whimsical fable about a girl and her cat, beloved by children and adults throughout Cohdopia. Unfortunately, it hasn't yet been translated into English.

As for books that have been translated into English, The Little Prince is somewhat similar in tone. I'm sure you would like it, if you haven't already read it.

I'm glad you liked talking to Moe, Mr. Ambassador - he'll do his best to make your circus trip wonderful, I know.

Your favorite book sounds interesting - I like stories where people and animals work together. Or even just stories about animals.

I haven't read The Little Prince, but I'll try to find it here in the library.
Thanks for your recommendations.

Oh yes, Mr. Curls said I might even be allowed to ride an elephant! I've never done that before.

I love stories about animals, too. Now I'm even more certain you'll like The Little Prince! It has animals in it. I'll also let you know right away if Undchen ahr Paathmin is ever translated.
