Title: Friendly Fire Fandom: Chuck Rating: G Spoilers: Episode tag/missing scene from "Chuck Versus the Fake Name." Summary: It's not easy to deal with, no matter which side of the gun you're on.
Oooh, I like this. I'm a sucker for good gen, and good Casey gen, so this really was a treat. I loved the idea that Casey would want to check on Sarah to make sure he really missed her. It's easy enough to understand the need, without taking away from Casey's sense of cool competence. Quite the contrary - the fact that he does check makes him more competent.
Not quite getting where the hug was coming from, but I also like your descriptions of Sarah. She can be a hard one to get right, looking so gentle and soft but kicking ass. You captured that well.
I may 'ship Casey with anything that moves, but damned if he doesn't make for even more awesome gen.
Not quite getting where the hug was coming from
Limited emotional vocabulary. :) Sarah knows that she's crap at talking out what she feels, and that if she says anything that even remotely sounds like it's about her lady feelings then Casey will immediately shut her down, so if she wants to emphasize that everything's okay and she's glad to have him there then she has to do it nonverbally.
I agree with you 100% that Sarah is a challenge to pin down, which is partly because she doesn't get the best treatment from the show's writers but also because she's a surprisingly complex character for such a "fun-oriented" show. Delighted to hear that you liked what I did with her.
Love that he would want to reassure himself, love that she would too. I was wary of it being told from Casey's point of view, am not a big fan of first person fic cause it usually sounds like... well fanfic of the Becky in SPN kind. I got over my wariness and discomfort within a sentence because it was that well written.
Congrats, am very much enamored with this and the way you had them interact.
There are very few comments that make me quite as warm and fuzzy as hearing that someone took a gamble on something they might not normally have read and ended up loving it. Thanks very much for reading!
