Title: Begged, Stolen, and Borrowed Time Fandom: Haven Rating: G Summary: If a person can come back from the dead, maybe a friendship has a chance, too. Nathan and Duke, postscript to "Magic Hour."
Duke lets out a single raw breath and releases Nathan with one last half-slap to his shoulder. He walks around the side of the SUV and suddenly he’s Duke again, all easy smiles as he catches sight of Audrey and Dwight and calls a greeting to them, acting like he doesn’t notice Nathan walking beside him.
You got this totally right. Duke did exactly what Duke would do, which is letting down his guard for jsut a couple of seconds to let Nathan know that things REALLY MATTER.
Duke is unexpectedly silent, his face clearly saying that Nathan’s discomfiture is entertaining enough on its own that it needs no commentary. Nathan tries to fight off the feeling that this is another setup in which embarrassing him is Duke’s entire goal.
And that was another perfect moment.
Oh, the set-up for the bad movies! I really thought that there were going to be S/M toys involved or something, but instead you took a turn for the sweet and nerdy.
Thank you! This filled a little gap I didn't even know I wanted filled.
This story wasn't actually meant to be so much about Duke when I started, but he ended up "needing" the little moments the most.

Hah, yes, there was definitely supposed to be a moment of "wait, what?" there, so I'm glad it had the intended effect. ;)
Thank you for reviewing! I'm glad you liked the story.
I was really craving a follow-up to this episode, but I couldn't have hoped for one so perfect. I love this. What a terrific job you've done of getting inside Nathan's head, and Duke is perfectly in character, too. I will choose to believe this happened, exactly like this. ♥
