There is a reason I no longer buy American if I can avoid it. You guys have no quality control and nothing matters but money. Unfortunately, Canada probably won't be too far behind you. :-(

I buy American, but I have options you don't -- I can buy most of my food from my neighbors.

Canada does have its issues too, including the tar sands mess (which might be less of a mess if they weren't getting pressure from the U.S., but then there are always markets for oil besides us, so I don't know...) Blah.

OTOH, Canada's making great strides in other ways -- the prime minister is promoting hanging laundry up to dry (solar energy!), which I thought was pretty cool. Not everyone can hang all their stuff up, but the more who do, the better off we'll all be.

My mom uses the dryer for most things, but not delicates (elastics last longer that way). She lives in CA, so using less energy is super important there...

I can only hope that as the economy worsens here, people will become more responsible -- to a certain degree it's happening but.... we have a long road ahead of us.

Oh my yes. We definitely have our own unacceptable greed up here.

As to hanging wash... my landlord won't allow us to put laundry on the porch. I'd love to do that. I may next year.

I'm just correcting myself -- not prime minister, it's Premier. Apparently last year he had laundry hanging up on lines all over the building he works in, as part of declaring that everyone should be able to hang up their laundry and save energy and help the environment.
