Yeah because movies based on video games have always been box office gold -- e.g. Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, Wing Commander, BloodRayne, Alone in the Dark, Doom.. anyway... :)
It gets better though. Everything from Halo to Castlevania and Metal Gear to Tekken and Spy Hunter to Spyro the Dragon are supposed to come out in the next year or two. Hell, they're even supposed to remake Mortal Kombat in a few years. However, my favorite game-turned-movie currently slated for release...?
I already know about Wall*e and I've heard rumor of a Terminator 4 on the way. Warcraft seems an obvious choice, so it's a toss-up between Shrek 4 and Lincoln. Of the two, Shrek 4 actaully seems the least plausible.
Actually, I'd go to see that. Every time I come across a production based on Lovecraft's works, they're always crap (Re-Animator being the one true exception), but somebody has to get it right eventually, right? Apparently Dagon has a cult following of sorts, but I don't get it because it was playing on Sci-Fi Channel the first time I saw it and I thought I was just watching another one of their TV movies.
It's funny, because Re-Animator was based on the collection of stories Lovecraft hated the most. Some magazine wanted him to do a medical science fiction serial, and that's what he came up with, but he was never quite happy with it. Plus, you have to admit that the movie was saved quite a bit by Jeffrey Combs' dark, deadpan delivery.
Actually, though Guillermo del Toro (you know, Pan's Labyrinth?) has adapted "At the Mountains of Madness" and is actively working to get it produced. It's slotted to begin production directly after Hellboy 2. Not only do I think this guy has the vision to give it the adaptation Lovecraft deserves, but he is dead set on getting it right. It's his pet project, and his heart is fully into it, including pushing the studios to buy it even though it doesn't include a love story.
Also, Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness and The Thing were both really faithful homages to Lovecraft without actually being based on any particular story. I found out that Prince of Darkness is also part of Carpenter's "Lovecraft

edit: Well, it looks weird behind a cut, but it fixes the problem.

I'd actually watch the Lincoln movie just because I so adore Liam.
But Warcraft. Why?
