Spent all day lazing about the house because I have a cold. Feeling much better by the end of the day. However, I have been EATEN ALIVE by bugs. They must have come inside to escape the encroaching cold but did they have to give me 9 BUG BITES ( Read more... )

... How odd. Maybe because you flapped your hand he thought of the traditional grace of kissing it? Or maybe it's a sighn of respect and thanks in their culture. Sweet in any case.

Oh, thanks for the link to the FT Eng/Port boat story, but it wasn't that one. If I remeber correctly, it features them as children running into each other on a boat... It might be elsewhere, but you're the main source for Eng/Port stuff, so I'm sure it was here... blah.

Random thought - what about a drabble concerning 'The Last King of Scotland'? You know, the guy Idi Amin who visited the Queen with no warning, announced himself King of Scotland and banned flipflops in his own country of Uganda, and gave any breakers of the ban the choice of EATING said offending footwear, or being shot on the spot? It'd be funny to see half the world rant about him and the other haf just go "WTF", like I did.
