I don't understand people either. When I was growing up, my art teacher didn't have arms below the elbows or legs below the thighs (he was born this way). I never found this scary even as a little kid; I was more awe-inspired by his artwork than by his lack of limbs. Children may stare when they encounter new kinds of people, but they usually learn to fear them only through adult reactions to those people.
Kids stare when they see something new. After that, it's usually adults who make them feel if something is to be feared or just seen as normal as anything else. Kids used to stare at my sister's wheelchair. These days, she has everyone's kids wanting to sit on her knee and go for a ride!
I just think it's crazy how one parent wouldn't let his child watch her because he thought it would give her nightmares! What if that girl goes to school and a teacher/member of staff or pupil has the same disability? Is he going to take her out of the school?
Your kidding me? This is the woman who's missing half an arm right?
I remember seeing her when I was staying at my sister's in England, and Ffion was watching her cartoons. The kid barely even noticed the handicap and just loved the show.
And I remember loving that, that these children get to learn dealing with people with disabilities as a normal part of life. I'm sure a lot of the kids who grew up watching that woman as a presenter, are less likely to be staring at people with disabilities later on.
I told my daughter about this (she's 10 but watches the channel with her little brother) and she was outraged saying how she thinks she's lovely and what does it matter if someone has part of them missing?
Seriously, it took me a couple of days to notice and when I did I thought, good for her, good role model etc. Jaidan still hasn't noticed and probably won't because I don't make an issue of it!
It never fails to amaze me how parents do so little now days in raising their children. How difficult is it to just explain those disabilities to children and move on instead of putting the blame on the person with the disability...

Why would anyone complain about her?
