To me the whole mess between Dean and Cas didn't make sense--Cas didn't kill Mary and what would Dean knowing Jack was soulless have changed? It felt like the writers figured they needed interfamily conflict to be brewing for the last season so there could be an epic renewal of friendship...at least thankfully they decided NOT to make it between Dean and Sam!

It's true, I guess we should just be glad that we didn't have Dean and Sam conflict... but "it could have been worse" is hardly high praise.
But yeah, Dean also made the call that Jack was fine after getting Donatello's okay - and he didn't even STICK AROUND for their conversation. Dean took the word of SOMEONE ELSE WHO WAS SOULLESS. So honestly, they just paint him as a giant hypocrite who is taking his own inadequacies out on everyone else, and at this point is just feels like character assassination... albeit perhaps only mild. But even a little character assassination is too much character assassination.
