I really hate tragedies

For what it's worth, I didn't cry at the end of Rogue 1.

I sobbed my eyes out at the end of Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them, and nobody died...

And I am resisting the blatantly clear story-telling that telegraphs in capital letters that Supernatural is a tragedy with every fiber of my soul...

Haha, same.

Well, that's good to know about Rogue One. Everyone else is like "I'm a sobbing mess!" but then you never know what's real and what's fandom hyperbole.

Man, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was another movie I wanted to see, but just haven't... I have just not been in the mood for drama in any form, it seems. :P

I also want to go see Hidden Figures, which might win out over all those other ones. We'll see we'll see. I think it's also just hard to find time to go to the movies... you always have to dedicate a whole evening to it. (not to mention $20).

The thing you need to know about Rogue One, is that yes, there's tragedy, but more than that, it's about hope. It's about people holding on through the most dire of circumstances on the slim chance that there might be hope for the future.

The characters involved die in the hope of achieving a better future for the world around them, and because it leads right into the three original Star Wars movies, we know that said hope proves true, and that they will have been successful in their mission.

It's painful, but the ending is most of all positive, which I feel, now more than ever is essential.

Yes, I hear it has a fantastic message. And I'm not saying it's a tragedy meaning like... tragedy/sadness. I mean it's a tragedy in the definition of "everybody dies"... like, I even recognize that it's not even a tragedy in the Shakespeare sense, because Shakespeare's tragedies were all about heroes being their own undoing, and that doesn't apply here ( ... )

I've seen someone aptly described rogue 1 as "a war movie, but not a star war movie". The last half hour or so really reminded me of the first half hour of saving private ryane.

Oh man, I "watched" the first half hour of Saving Private Ryan by staring into the black beneath the screen and humming little tunes to myself.

I would definitely hold out for Sherlock on Netflix, if you decide you want to watch it. Apparently our virgin American ears can't take certain words and therefore you get some odd bleeps. When I found out what was bleeped all I could think was "Oh come ON!" because they are really nothing worth bleeping.

Episode 1 was meh, IMHO, episode 2 is much better, but I don't think it's that great in either case.

Oh man, it that on the American BBC? Usually I pirate it from BBCOne in the UK. But yeah, I think I might hold out until it appears on Netflix.

I've seen a few gifs and a fanvid. It certainly seems dramatic... but yeah, can't tell how much I'd care for the storyline.

Actually it's on PBS, which I guess has to be more cautious about offending people.

Ah, that probably explains it then. There are probably stricter rules for a public broadcaster.

I saw that picture that Jensen posted with his twins while I was in the waiting room to meet my newborn niece for the first time. :) It filled me with joy ( ... )

Cool about your niece! I'm going to have a new niece next week! Babies everywhere!

Yeah, I loved the previous seasons of Sherlock. But *shrug*, I mean, it doesn't help that AGAIN, I know enough about Sherlock canon to know that S4 contains a death... so, maybe I'm avoiding it for that reason? If I am, it's subconscious. I'm sure I'll watch it eventually though, I really like watching Martin Freeman act. (That being said, as much as I like Martin Freeman, I couldn't bring myself to watch the last Hobbit movie either... again, tragedy).

I figure I've come this far with SPN, might as well see it through to the end. ;)

The older I get, the more I think, I don't really need to put myself through a cancer movie/war movie/anything where a child dies. Those are real and devastating experiences that I feel empathy for in reality...but I don't get any catharsis or emotional payoff out of watching them unfold in fiction.Yes, I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Because when I was a teen, I DID read and watch a fair number of ( ... )
