After reading this entry, I read what I posted right after watching this episode. What you wrote here is basically everything I thought and felt as I watched it, except for your opinion on Dean/Cas, because they're my pairing of choice whenever I crave angsty crack. (And by "angsty crack" I mean that I associate their ~*true romance*~ with power ballads and 90's boy band pop songs, which is just sad yet hilarious at the same time. It's because the bond they share is ~*profound*~, okay?)

I hated that they under-utilized Adam as a character in S5. I wonder if they'll ever bring him up in S6? I just hate the thought of him being left in the pit, stuck with Michael and Lucifer forever. :(

Haha, I didn't mean to rain on anyone's pairing parade. Personally, I don't like slash in this fandom, but I can certainly see why the show is just asking for it :)

I didn't think they under-utilized Adam, but I do agree that I hope he's not still in the pit. Hopefully God or whoever returned him back to heaven (as a whole Adam, and not like Robot!Sam returning to earth.)

I also loved Sam's line "Don't say that to me. Not you. Of all people." It also reminded me of Dean saying something very similar when Sam confronted him about making the deal at the beginning of S3 (or maybe it was the end of S2? I think it was 3.1 though).

About Sam always having faith in Dean- in Season 4 he really didn't, or at least he said he didn't: to Ruby when he went to rescue Dean from Alistar, and to Dean's face in the siren fight. Now I know Sam was all drugged up on demon blood, and I know he wanted to protect Dean (he could see how much Hell hurt Dean), but I don't know if he still had faith in Dean despite that...

Oh yeah...S4, I forgot about that. You are right. Sam had no faith in Dean then, because he thought Dean was damaged.

And also a good catch with Dean's line to Sam in S2 - I think it was more along the lines of "Don't get mad at me. Don't you do that."

You summed up all the reason why I have such epic love for this episode--and the show in general!

Thanks! I'm sure I could have done it in fewer words, but I'll take the compliment anyway ;)

I'm going to have to stop reading your recaps. You do them very well, but I still have Issues with season 5, especially towards the end, and it's just making me frustrated all over again! (like this whole adam thing! grrr! I sometimes wonder if the rumors were correct and that the show *was* supposed to take a very different direction at this point, but swerved due to being renewed/personal issues/whatever else the rumor covered).

I don't think the rumours are correct, but I understand your frustration. They way it ended was not for everyone. I believe Kripke when he said he ended it the way he always wanted to, only with less death (which I took to mean that Bobby and Cas would have remained dead in his version).

But yeah, feel free to stop reading :P I wouldn't want you to suffer from PTSD flashbacks! ;)

Oh, I don't doubt the end is what he wanted- the Power and Love and all- but the mechanism may have changed (for one, I suspect they may have being going for a dean vs sam / michael vs lucifier face-off with them both ending up in the cage sort of thing.). I just find it frustrating, not because of necessarily the end points or any plot detail in particular, it's just that...to me, it seemed like the first 18 or so episodes were from Season 5 of one universe and the last four were from Season 5 in an entirely different universe.

Maybe I'm biased, because I think it was a better ending without them both falling into the pit.

But hey, we're all entitled to our opinions.
