[Day 77 | Video call | Unfiltered]

Jul 23, 2011 09:54

[The call opens with a view of a street strewn with books. Pages flutter in the breeze. The camera swings around to focus on what's easily recognizable as the library, except right now, it's got a wall missing.]

Someone stop him! Look what he did to the library. [The voice is full of horror, as if describing some horrible desecration of a sacred ( Read more... )

What?

[Have a very confused Erk. And possibly upset, because he's been planning to go through the library and try to figure out what the heck is going on.]

What who did?

A User. At least I think he's a User, I'm not sure, he didn't look like a normal User. [Although she's not really sure what a normal User does look like, at this point.

She picks up another book.] 'Illicit Passion'. Sounds unpleasant.

Yes, it does. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by a 'User'.

No, wait, someone's used it... a User is a human?

Yes. You've met someone who uses that term, too? [Must be Flynn. She doesn't know of anyone else who knows or is from the Grid here.]

Monkey?

You never brought me those apples.

There's a book about apples here too. 'Forbidden Fruit'.

Sorry Q, I was trying to find a tree with enough fruit to pick. I can bring them to you now though, if you want?

[A short laugh.] No, it's okay. I'm going to clean up here as best I can before doing anything else. You could help with that if you want, but I think most of these books are a lost cause.

[A chuckle]

Huh. Interesting book title.

I'm not really sure what it means, to be quite honest. I'm not sure I want to know.

Nah, it's probably one of the things it's just better to stay in the dark about, so to speak.

Yes. I definitely don't want to know what a...[She consults a page of the book]...'rod of lustful desire' is, for example.

Is that what passes off as literature in this town? Great.

So, who'd "him" that did that?

isoalgorithm July 23 2011, 08:56:26 UTC
Oh, there are plenty of other books. These are just the unlucky ones. [For good reason, apparently, although she doesn't say that. Books shouldn't be treated like this no matter what they're about.]

I don't know his name. He was very rude.

"Rude" sounds a little light for someone who tried to knock down a library. Did you get a good look at him, at least?

isoalgorithm July 24 2011, 03:20:16 UTC
No, I only heard his voice. And the explosions.

Had a run-in with an illiterate wanker, did you, darling?

Something like that. I don't think this was the only building damaged but it's definitely the most important. [In her opinion, anyway.]

thehellblazer July 24 2011, 14:50:29 UTC
How much damage was done to it?

I haven't gone inside yet, but it looks like a corner of it has been mostly destroyed. There's no wall, anyway.

I'm trying to rescue the books. A lot of them are burned or ruined, but...[A shrug and a sigh.] I can't just let them lie around in the street.
