Day 61 | Phone call to all | Tell me everything.

May 13, 2011 11:22

[He had been forewarned about what using this device would be like, a brief instruction giving him tools enough for his purpose.  Yet he used it with great caution, as the small boxy object with which he could 'call' on the whole of the town made him wary.  When the last of the rings cut off with the call being picked up, that soft little click, he ( Read more... )

[Oh really?]

Might I inquire, madam, what foundations you have for your statement?

Because your words mean nothing.

Naive. Stupid.

Only to die.

[Where previously he though he heard the voice of an overzealous creature, he now surmounted this ridiculousness to not only a woman, but one who suffered from hysteria. Nothing to get offended over.

For while Edrington was a man who spun words, they were rarely of less than well-thought intelligent remarks, and hardly naive.

The only thing the young woman had gotten right?]

Miss, I am a Colonel. An officer of war. I certainly expect to die, but not here.

I've only been here for like two days but I can tell you that people prooobably don't give a shit about what you're saying.

[Pardon him a moment while he takes in the frankness of your language.]

I take it you are a working man to use such language as freely as you have. Of which I value your opinion, sir, though it bears no relevance to the matter. Government does not stand for people to give a care for it, though that is, duly and highly preferable. It is there to serve a purpose that can, at times, go unappreciated.

Seeing as you seem about as new as I am, I don't think your opinion bears much relevance to the matter either, man. We don't know anything about this place or the people here.

I know that a people without law are prone to rebellion and destructive revolution. For which there is no benefiting party.

No offense, Colonel, but we don't need a government. We're not going to be stuck here permanently. Just working together as fellow men's good enough for however longer we have to be in Bell Pointe.

I find in my experience when one states they mean no offense it is likely the opposite.

Which brings me to inquire as to who you are and what has brought you to think that no government is needed outside of primitive collaboration at the expense of proper order.

[Jaime fumes quietly and starts to pace back and forth in his room. There are some angry, flailing hand gesticulations.]

With all due respect? I'm not trying to start anything. I really am not.

My name is Jaime Reyes. And our order is proper enough without somebody taking control. Thank you for your concern, sir, but a ruler is the last thing that we need.

I would never exact control over an entire town by establishing myself in any position of power, particularly one of ruling. Nobility or not, I know myself well enough to know what I am. A man of war, Mister Reyes. I come from a war and to see myself in a town of ungoverned peoples of unfortunate circumstances gives me no pleasure.

I am of little importance so much as order is of utmost necessity. I hold no authority to appoint nor do I plan to. Do not think me so self-servicing, Mister Reyes. I merely wish to assure that no uprisings against one another as I have witnessed is done here.

[He makes a mental note about that full name, but... he'll resist commenting.]

Another gentleman here-- Admiral Norrington-- called for volunteers of military and law enforcement to help protect the civilians.

I would imagine, my lord, that he might be able to assist you in this endeavour.

Is there? Thank you then, Captain Hornblower. I should wish to speak with him at the earliest opportunity.

[A beat.]

I do owe you a bit of thanks in regards to your instructions on this device here. While it is doubtful I understand the machine I appreciate your efforts to acquaint me with it.

I readily admit that I do not understand the thing in the slightest, but it useful, at least.

If the Admiral does not contact you in regards to this message, I shall provide proper introductions, of course.

You continue to prove yourself of great assistance. Which I appreciate as I... acclimate myself with this settlement.

I would not have known what to do with such a strange thing. I can see how this would prove invaluable elsewhere. Remarkable.

Trying telling that to people who can punch through walls with their bare hands. I'm sure they'd love your idea. Or kill you for it. One or the other.

Punch through walls, you say?

Do you refer to yourself or some other strangely unnatural, logic defying person within this place?

[The death threat is not going to phase him. He's far too scarred from war for that. Not until you punch through the spot of wall nearest his head will he flinch. Mentally. He's had cannon fire impact mere feet from him, his own men given naught but a thought of God help them as he continued his march.]

As for whom I am speaking with, would you care to make yourself known?
