Day 49, Late Evening | Call to All

Mar 20, 2011 19:46

Hey, uh... sorry if this has been gone over already, but there's so much crap flying around the network and people chattering on the phone I don't know where to start, but is the S-Mart safe yet? I'd like to get some food ( Read more... )

I'm afraid I don't know. Care to explain what you meant?

Which part? Oh, probably the S-Mart thing... there was this, er, guy or monster or something camping it out, and I think I heard people were gonna try to fight him?

No. The last part. How to deal with boredom and...?

Oh. [Well, someone feels embarrassed.] I mean, just, it's all super-quiet around here. I've always had the family around, or I used to live with a friend from home when I first came here.

Don't head over there. That guy is still hanging around. You don't want any part in that.

...You're living alone?

Great, that's what I was gonna guess. Ugh... got half a mind to go down there and unleash a little hell.

Yeah, I arrived with a friend, but she got sent home. So, just me.

Don't. He doesn't mind trying to eat people.

[He wishes he was kidding.]

You shouldn't be on your own. Did your apartment flood?

I've got a few tricks up my sleeve. I'm faster than most guys and have range on my side!

[...Yeah he's not nearly as confident as he sounds, unfortunately.]

Yeah, it did. Whole house is ruined, and with Chie tralalaing back home, I'm picking up by myself.

I'm not sure about any S-Mart... I only just arrived here today, but I've always wondered if having a pet would make any difference when you're living by yourself.

Ah, geez, a newbie at this time? Just glad you missed the floods. And... a pet? That's not such a bad idea, actually.

Floods? Where they the natural disaster?

I've always wanted a pet cat, or even a lizard maybe! To keep me and my older brother company, but my apartment doesn't allow pets.

Oh, I'll say, dude. There was like, this huuuuge blizzard, and then the rain started and melted all the snow, and then it just kept raining and we got like several feet of water! It sucked, a lot.

A lizard...? I dunno about that, but maybe a kitten would be nice. I wouldn't know what it's like having a brother either, but... I did sort of take care of a talking bear!

[She might have had a few suggestions on How To Live Alone 101 if she wasn't so ready to jump on him for even thinking of heading to the S-Mart. ]

It's not. Don't go.

[Now that's a tone of voice he can call authoritative.]

Not gonna. Not alone, anyway. ...Not unless it's pitch-black out and I just want to take a pot-shot.

I still doubt that would give you much of an advantage. He's a lot worse for you than baking soda, that's for sure.

Baking soda is a pretty nasty opponent, you gotta admit. [All times are good times for jokes!] But yeah. I'll pass, until people plan on some sort of unified offensive. Still got enough dried food here for a day or two, and I hear the hospital is safe.

Oh hey. Expert on living alone here.

Ask me anything. Seriously.

Okay, sure! Uh, the big thing is, I'm not used to all the quiet, and even when the power is all... not-wonky, I'm not sure if TV or radio is gonna be enough to make me feel not weird. Suggestions?

I played a lot of video games but I dunno if you can get them here. Considering the computer is running on a zillion year old system maybe you can get an Atari.

Kinda sucky I guess that you're in a big two story house alone though. It's not so bad in a studio apartment.

Man, I'd kill for some video games. I was a gamer back home, you bet, and not even- uh, strange things could turn me off'em. [The less said about his foray into an 8-bit RPG turned into hideous reality, the better.]

Huh, are there apartment complexes in town...? If I do decide to stay shacked up alone, something small and less giant-y might make it tolerable.
