Unlike the humans who seemed happy to hang around their shitty little town all day, Grimmjow liked getting out of it. In fact, he spent more time away from it than he spent in it. The beach was his favorite haunt, with its long stretch of sand and the steady thrum of the waves. And he spent hours there almost daily, soaking in both the solitude and the sense of power he pulled from the place.

He was on his way there now, having decided to take the long, meandering route this morning. Why not? He had nowhere else to be and all the time in the world to get there. There wasn't any reason to rush.

Dawn shivered in her jacket, hunching her body closer together as if to keep the heat from fleeing her body and tugged the scarf wrapped around her neck up to her face. The cold didn't seem to be bothering Empoleon, who was out of his ball and patiently following his trainer on her way to S-mart. She had intended to come down yesterday to get something for her flu but ended up putting it off; when she woke up still feeling completely miserable and with nothing in the house to alleviate it, she'd trudged out of the house, snuffling and coughing.

Empoleon noticed the stranger first, Dawn only realizing someone was there when she sensed her Pokemon tensing up beside her. For a moment she froze, wide-eyed, afraid that it was him-- It wasn't, she realized, although she'd never seen the woman before. Was she new? And wasn't she cold, wearing something like that?

"Hey!" Dawn called out or at least tried to; the word had come out something as a hoarse croak that ended in a coughing fit. She tried again. "Hello there!"
