The cat is fine. Also the answer to their question about "why not a human" is this: You can represent a character in any number of ways. He could be a human, that's true. But in a short comic like this it doesn't matter what the fuck he is because it doesn't have an impact on anything except the visuals. Art Spiegelman used mice instead of humans.
