I am very unhappy with the websites saying that random airport/airspace closures are possible throughout the summer. It may just mean that I will be left without a trip to Europe for the second year in a row. Oh well, I guess it is time to explore the US for a change. And maybe to go down to the Caribbean or Latin America to expand my horizons ( Read more... )

I think there was a bit of overreaction, and not nearly all the areas that closed their airspace should have done so... though I am glad I am not travelling anywhere. That was some adventure - getting back from DC today through the storm. Normally, it takes me between 3.5 and 4 hours to do so. Today, it took me full 6. First, the roadwork and the confusing intersections in DC got me, so instead of 10-15 minutes to get to the major road it took me some 25-30 minutes. I just learned there is an airport with the code AVL. Just like my initials. I have to go there! It belongs to the town of Asheville, North Carolina. I have never been to North Carolina.
