Basically, I have just been working in the pharmacy, going to school, and figuring out what I want to be when I grow up, so I have really had nothing to update about... Some locations I have been sent to are pretty far away, but I am not complaining because I would rather drive an hour (55 miles) to the South and be in a nice town than drive 25 ( Read more... )

Here in Holland we may insist on using pork for split pea soup, but a little Googling revealed that with beef the result is considered less fat and thus more healthy.

My mom always made it with pork too, and the last time I made it I used pork as well. Interstingly, last time mine turned out too think - more like pea porridge than pea soup - but apparently in Holland that's a good thing. :) I still prefer a more watery version, though.

I read this recipe to my mom, and she said it is very similar to the recipe my great-grandmother used to make, except we don't grow or eat celery in Northern Russia. :)
