Unexpected Visit - Pale Rider and Hellfire

Nov 09, 2009 22:33

Shinju sat in a chair in his living room, legs pulled up to his chest. The soft sound of some instrumental jazz filled the room and managed to keep the silence of the apartment from strangling him. He'd already had enough trouble breathing lately with all the stress ( Read more... )

After talking with Jeremy, which ended up in a semi-truce to find a way out of here, Kresnik decided to pay a surprise visit to Shinju. The boy looked depressed when he left them and the commander wanted to know what was bothering him. Ordinarily, the soldier wouldn't bother with this... but he has known Shinju for a while and he has come to respect him. Besides, he wanted to clear up any misconceptions that the boy might have had.

Arriving at the correct apartment, Kresnik knocked on the front door and waited.

The knock awoke Shinju from his thoughts with a jolt. He nearly jumped up from his chair, tripping over its leg in the process and landing with a thud on the ground.

"Oww," he groaned, slowly getting to his feet and rubbing the spot where his forehead had met the floor. "What the hell is wrong with me? I've been so out of it lately," he said to himself as he moved towards the door.

Without really thinking, the young man opened the door for his visitor, hand still on his forehead. "Hello?"

Kresnik stood patiently, slightly frowning when he heard a rather loud thud echo from the inside. However, he didn't have the time to think about it when the door opened to reveal a slightly tired Shinju with a hand on his forehead.

"....Are you alright, Shinju?"

Shinju was a bit surprised at who his visitor was--he hadn't expected Kresnik to speak with him again so soon, nor did he think the man was the type to visit other people's homes... then again, he'd been surprised a bit at everyone's behavior lately, even his own. Maybe he was the one who was changing, without noticing it? He shook his head at himself.

"K-Kresnik... I'm fine," he replied, bringing the hand down from his forehead, letting his hair cover the red mark. He'd get some ice for it later.

He paused for a moment before he actually realized that a friend was standing at his door, and moved aside to make space for the brunet to walk inside. "Ah... Come in."

She hadn't thought much on taking Shinju up on the offer to hang out before everyone had vanished. Not because she didn't appreciate his company, but because she hadn't actually needed too before now. The disappearing people had unnerved her slightly, for certain, but it was the vanishing of her twin, and the subsequent straining of their intuitive knowledge of the other that had her seeking out company.

She heard the jazz before she made it to the door, and despite her own unhappiness, she smiled. And then, she knocked on the door.

By this time, Shinju'd gotten a bag of ice for the earlier bump and was holding it lightly to his forehead. Not quite as startled by the visitor this time, he sat the bag of ice down on the side-table, getting up from his seat and moving towards the door without incident.

"Hello?" he greeted for the second time that day as he opened the door.

"Hi Shin-nii," Del tried to keep herself from sounding as unhappy as she felt. "It was too... quiet at my apartment, so I thought I'd come and hang out, if it's not an imposition."

Then she blinked, looking at his forehead.

"Are you okay?"

"Oh, Del," he said with a small smile, opening the door to let her in. "Of course, come in."

He reached up to scratch the back of his neck, a bit embarassed. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just tripped on my own feet. It's nothing to worry about."
