Just learned we have another wine tasting in a few weeks. Bob is not happy either since it was announced without his knowledge or any ideas what to have at it. Ugh!
Yep, because it's my job. I'll explain. I'm one of the chefs that need to cook the meal and make sure the wine selection pairs well with the food. Bob is the Executive chef and is in charge of the food menu for the tasting and we work as a time to pull the event off. We have a tasting every month expect for in the spring, but usually the owner asks us when we want to have it or what will be on the menu so it's a big shock to us that there wasn't a mention of it in our party booking meeting and yet an ad appeared in the paper for it being on a day when regular dinner usually is served that day.
Even if we're sick we have to work. Nothing short of being in the hospital or not being opened that day will keep us from working. Such is the food service industry. We wear masks on those days but we still have to be there.
I'm officially a sous chef, meaning that if the executive chef isn't in the kitchen I take over his spot and the line cook jumps into mine.
