Awwwwwww. The last line made me--literally--shed tears... "little brother"! I wish I knew Mandarin more than a word or two, but even without the translation, I really like it that Lao Shan is able to stand by Lex, support him through this tightrope situation that cannot be easy to survive with a caring heart. The fact that Lex can come up with the possible plan on spot makes me wonder what (horrifyingly effective) education he has been given by Lionel. It is really difficult when a father can put a son through this at such a young age--testing, manipulating, pressuring, and expecting manipulation and calculation in return like his own so as to be blind to the obvious deep bond that is being forged right in front of his eyes. I am a bit ambivalent about Lex having have to grow into power too soon, becoming a confident, reliable scientist whose authority demands certain duty and sacrifice, although Lex coming into power, transforming, becoming, due to Clark's presence in his life is the very thing that drives the story (and sucks me ( ... )

I hope work wasn't too awful! Glad you enjoyed this bit. My Mandarin is pretty weak, but basically (I hope) Lao Shan told Lex about the building and the floors, and then Lex used the information...I think living with a father like Lionel would force you to get good at quick thinking. We'll see more of that as we go along in this story. And yes, I definitely see Clark's love as Lex's salvation, and vice versa. Love and happy endings...my two big kinks! ;-)

Take care of yourself and stay happy...don't work too hard!
