Patroclus wasn't sure whether to believe that Achilles was truly here. He had hoped for this moment for a long time - for as long as he had been plucked out of the jaws of death.

He couldn't help smiling when he heard the knock. He wasn't sure if someone's knock could portray their whole character but Achilles' knock spoke of impatience and Patroclus was not a man to keep anyone waiting, much less his - his Achilles.

He swung the door open, one eyebrow already raised. "You took your sweet time, my Lord Achilles."

How Patroclus could seem so casual about this was baffling. Did he not know all that had happened? Surely he must know from the others that he had been struck down in battle. Remembering it now seemed like a nightmare. He could recall the consuming rage he had felt towards Hector, towards all Trojans, and he had acted out accordingly, in a frenzy. Thinking about it too much, though, led to troublesome thoughts that things might have turned out differently if he had only been a little smarter to begin with. He should never have let Patroclus go into battle wearing that armor.

"It was not intentional --" he began. He did not want to waste time explaining the computer or talking about the Trojans. He cut himself off mid-sentence, shook his head, and smiled, before hugging Patroclus. (A very manly greeting for old friends!) It was as much an expression of emotion as it was to confirm that this was a real flesh and blood being before him and not a specter sent to torment him.

Patroclus hugged Achilles back, firmly. He supposed he would have to let go sooner or later but he wasn't too inclined. Murmuring against his friend's ear, "You are over-thinking, aren't you?"

He sighed, and took a step back, his hands straying to Achilles' shoulders so that he could continue to hold him (and convince himself that this was real). "You must think me dreadfully flippant but I have been here for many months." He shrugged. "Come in, come in! I am sure Briseis will be back soon enough but I must have you to myself for a time."

"I've been given a lot to think about today," he replied, also not in any real hurry to end the embrace. It was true, there was a lot to think about. The idea that his friend had been here safe while he had had to suffer the battles against Ilium, alone, waiting for his dreadful fate was extremely disagreeable. Why did they ever have to be separated? What a cruel thing it was to do to friends. It was right now, though, that they could be together now.

He entered the apartment, looking around briefly. "Many months?" he repeated, not bothering to hide his surprise. He shook his head again, gradually learning to accept the many strange phenomenons being thrown at him. "It is so strange, how time works in this place. This place itself is strange. There is so much that I don't understand right now..."
