Formerly absent friends

When Xigbar had broken the news about Axel's presence, not only on Spira, but in their midst, and at that point in time, on his couch, it had been met with mixed reviews ( Read more... )

When informed that Xigbar had been and grabbed Axel as he was trying to leave, Vexen had been very annoyed.

He'd pointed out that he hadn't told him about Axel being there so he could bring him into their midst. He was a murderer, a traitor and entirely the wrong sort of person to have around. "He can't be trusted!" He'd insisted, his eyes and temper flaring at the very idea of him being there. He had only held off yelling --or at the very least ranting-- because of Saix's presence. Knowing that Saix was undecided about what to do about Axel when he'd first seen him forced back the temptation to lose his cool on the subject. They were friends once upon a time, after all. With hearts, the emotions and confusion were bound to be running high.

Even so, despite his extremely grudging acceptance of Axel being back and amongst them, he'd been reluctant to put himself in a situation where he'd actually have to see the former number eight. He wouldn't find it too hard to admit that it because he was frightened of him. That was the entire ( ... )

Axel had wanted to lie low for a little bit longer than Xigbar had allowed ( ... )

Larxene had taken the news quite well indeed. Although the first time she'd seen Axel again she'd tried to zap Timcanpy, and got bitten for her troubles, she hadn't actually tried to do anything to Axel.

Since then, she hadn't tried with Timcanpy, either, although she'd formed a knife and seriously considered it.

She was doing much the same now, until she saw Vexen and Saix walk in, at which point she perked up, sitting straighter in her seat.

"Uh oh," she said, smirking.

Xigbar heard the 'uh oh' from Larxene, said in a way that suggested she was thinking far less 'uh oh' and far more 'oh yes', and he turned to look towards the door.

He grinned, but it wasn't nicely.

He hadn't really expected either of them to put in appearances so soon. It was the first time he'd seen Saix in the Sandsea in weeks. He thought it would be at least that long again before the two of them showed up now they knew Axel was here.

Apparently he was wrong.

Saix scowled, and his hand tightened in Vexen's for a fraction of a second.

"Are you sure you're all right with this?" He asked, looking up at his husband with a severe expression masking the soft concern. Axel's presence had already raised his hackles. He'd had time, since first running into him, to remember all the things that had happened.

He remembered the anger and betrayal that had never been fully experienced when Axel had abandoned the Organization, and the bitter resentment at Axel's death, and that he'd let the Keyblade Bearer in to destroy the last of them.

Seeing Axel made his stomach jump, but it also made him prickle with the desire to smash him to bits.

Saix didn't stop once he'd got Axel outside the Sandsea. Instead he shoved him forward, grabbing the back of his clothes and his spiky red hair, and kept Axel walking, bent over, and at a too-fast pace.

He didn't let go until they reached the gates of the city, leading out into the Estersands.

With a final shove he threw Axel forward.

Then went after him with a fist, aiming an old fashioned but very solid punch at Axel's face.

Knocked off kilter by the shove, Axel was all too easily caught by the punch to the face. It, of course, knocked him flying. While Axel had always been decent in a fight when it came to dealing punches, his primarily long-distance and magic-based fighting style made him unused to actually taking them.

He landed on his back in the sand with an 'oof' and immediately brought the back of his hand to dab at his split lip. He sat up, shaking off the dazed feeling, but found that the impact had also made his nose bleed slightly. Just great, he thought, wiping it with his wrist. That gets this off to a great start.

Still! He wasn't about take it lying down. He got to his feet and held himself in his usual loose battle pose, glaring at his childhood friend.

Saix wasn't dressed for the occasion. Right now he'd be better off in his berserker gear, and he knew it, but at the same time....

This was so difficult. He was livid with Axel for doing that to his husband, for so casually bringing up, for threatening him, with something that had made Vexen wake up with nightmares every night. He wanted to batter him black and blue, or leave him as a greasy red smear on the sands.

But at the same time, that was still Lea. Despite Saix's every urge to break him, he didn't want to kill him.

Which was why he didn't summon his claymore, for now.

"Why must you always push things too far?" He growled, baring his teeth like a dog. "Why couldn't you have just left after you saw me?"

Axel didn't unclip his chakrams just yet, either. Instead they stayed snugly attached to his belt, ready for use. He was equally as livid as Saix, but for entirely different reasons.

It stung that Saix wished he'd just gone. It ached in the pit of his stomach knowing that he didn't want to see him, even though he'd chased him. He'd hoped, somehow, that he'd attempted to follow him in the market for reasons other than to smash him into the floor, but it seemed that he was to be disappointed.

"You think I want to be here?" He snapped back, lacking the ability to edge his words with growls and snarls. "I was a minute from leaving when Xigbar stopped me. He waited for me at the Aerodrome because your whack-job husband told him I you saw me! Why couldn't you have kept your mouth shut?"

He tried to keep a lid on his temper, but even as he heard his own voice rise to a shout, he couldn't manage to bite it back.

"If I'd have tried running, he'd have shot me full of holes, all right? I wanted to go." He swept a hand across himself, as ( ... )
