Not gunna happen...

"Aslan?" he hissed. "Aslan?"

The Lion turned his head, and looked at him.

"Aslan. I didn't know you could be here, outside Narnia."

"Did you not?"

Edmund thought about that. Now he wasn't sure if he had known, or could have known if he had thought about it, or... he gave it up; the question of deciding what he really knew was too hard, and it was ( Read more... )

I can see how there might be problems fitting it in, but I also think this fragment is so very well worth posting in its own right. Of course the Just King should be asking how a Just God could have favorites.

Thanks! It was going to happen just after Edmund's arrival in Telmar, at night, in the forest, after the climb, but the story got away from me in another direction with the sighting of the Elephant.
And now Edmund does have help, and in any case Aslan appearing now would feel very deus ex machina, even if he didn't act like one, and would (I think) unbalance the flow of things. But this is part of how I think Edmund would wrestle with things - I'm glad you found it worthwhile. :)

I missed this entry--it came when I had my head down in work. It's a worthy exchange, even if you have to sacrifice it from your overall story.

I have found Aslan's message of "not your story" to be very pointful and meaningful in my own life...

I would have really liked to have it in the story, and to take it further, but it didn't fit until the time had gone past for it.
Ah, well... maybe next time. (Maybe next time I'll think it all through properly beforehand! :) )

Oh, the ever-dodgy Aslan. Not Edmund's story indeed. But this was a good exchange. I like how Edmund's all "er, no, don't have another question" but Aslan is busy giving him a pointed look. Aslan is the financial aid adviser/ doctor/ employer we all wish we had for when it's question-asking time and we know we had them, but look they flew away. But that's a bit blase, and I did like it.
