My 15 seconds of sporting fame

Wow, wow, wow...I had been wondering what you were up to. That's totally fascinating. Actually, I've always found weightlifting strangely appealing myself. Always reckoned I had the build for it, and might have been decent at it, in my youth, but of course women didn't really get to do that stuff in my day.

I have had to remind myself that even if my school hadn't been so obsessed with team sports, there was still no chance that they would have let us girls try Olympic weightlifting in the 1970s. Women's weightlifting wasn't included in the Olympics until 2000! I wonder how many Rory van Ulfts we missed out on (a 9 year old marvel I learned about at the gym).

...Just wow. Well done! BTW, I've always considered FANNY AND ALEXANDER to be quite wonderful; must watch it again, some time.

I've never seen Fanny and Alexander, and honestly had been looking forward to it. But the previous Saturday I'd been in the West End around 5.30 pm (after seeing a matinee of It's a Wonderful Life at the ENO), and the crowds at Leicester Square tube were so dense I couldn't get in the station and ended up walking to Westminster instead. And I decided I couldn't face that again. But with such a strong recommendation from you, I will make sure I don't wimp out next time I have a chance to see it.

I saw it as a series on TV, which I think is a good idea. Great as it is, it's VERY long, and I think you get more out of it in several chunks.

Maybe I will treat myself to it as a DVD, so I can watch it like that. Thanks for the tip!
